The Hair Cut
I cut my hair!!! No other way to introduce this but to say just that, I finally grew theballsto chop off my hair. I have always wanted really short hair but could never commit to it. I was afraid of what I would look like mostly, and if I would miss my longer locks, yet after much thinking and the support of the peoples opinion that matters to me I decided there was nothing holding me back.I have never really cut my hair, I’ve trimmed, had my hair fall out (due to heat damage), but never really even visited a salon. I know I always wanted a pixy cut, or a boyish hair cut if I had naturally strait hair but I focused on finding a style that would look good with my natural curls. I wanted something edgy, easy and would still work if I wanted to straiten it.
The search for a specialty salon that cut natural hair, curls, waves and kinks was hard to find here in Boston. There was not a tun of feedback for a salon here so I decide to trample on familiar grounds and take a trip back home to New York. I decided on the Devachan Salon in SOHO New York. I had my hair cut by the fabulous and crazy talented April. She was a saint, supper sweet and attentive to what I was trying to explain. I think she noticed how nervous and worried I was about the outcome so she took extra care in explaining the process and what I should do to maintain the cut for the future.
I explained to April I wanted a tapered cut, a ton of volume at the top, as short as possible on the sides and the back higher at the top and tapered as it went down. I referenced a few photos and instantly she new what I wanted. My hair was cut dry, the salon cuts the hair dry in its naturally curly state, but since I usual hate and never wear my natural curls I went in with a twist out (the method I use to achieve my desired curls). I explained to April how I could not get my hair to curl the way I wanted so she washed and set my hair under a dryer with a few products and for the first time I can really wear my natural curls!
I can hardly explain the whole experience and do it justice. For now this is as much as I can get out about answering any questions anyone could have, I will maybe do a video on the products I use, how I style it every day and such.
xoxo Ariel
